Omaze Makes Donation to Colehill Community Library - The Library in the Woods

In May 2024, the Omaze Community raised an incredible £3,150,000 for BBC Children in Need in the Dorset House Draw. And that’s not all. Beyond the huge national impact that money will have for BBC Children in Need we’re so thrilled to announce that the Omaze Community has made it possible for us to make a £25,000 donation to Colehill Community Library - The Library in the Woods.

Colehill Community Library is an independent charity established in 2013. The library building requires regular maintenance but, due to the rising costs of materials and labour, the last partial repair was back in 2018.

The charity has been planning for a similar set of exterior works this year but, whilst the library has kept money in reserve to pay for repairs and maintenance, those reserves will struggle to cover the required repair costs.

And that’s where our Omaze Community comes in! The £25,000 donated by Omaze will provide much needed funds for both the maintenance of the building and to help encourage young people to pick up a book and enjoy reading.

So not only will the library receive the desperate makeover it needs to stay open, Omaze’s donation will also act as an incentive for this year’s nationwide Summer Reading Challenge, with children receiving a book bag when they sign up and a book token to acknowledge their successful completion of the challenge.

Susan Cowsill, Chair of Library Trustees said: "We would like to say a huge thank you to Omaze. Their generous donation will make such a difference to our library and community. By helping to maintain such a vital hub, this money will have a significant impact on the local children and will help to instil a quest for knowledge for the next generation of impassioned readers for years to come.”

Sherry Newton, Omaze, said: “Everyone at Omaze is absolutely delighted we have been able to make a contribution to the Colehill Community Library to help ensure that the vital maintenance work is undertaken. I was honoured to visit the library, meeting the incredible team who volunteer for free and some of the local children, who were all looking forward to having plenty to read this summer.

"Omaze will continue to help more local causes in the areas where we host our house draws, wherever possible."
