The Artura is McLaren’s most advanced supercar ever – and that’s because it’s really two cars in one. It’s a plug-in hybrid, which means it has both an engine and an electric motor, the latter powered by a 7.4 kWh battery.
That means the McLaren Artura has up to 19 miles of electric-only range, with the zero-emissions power coming from the 95PS e-motor. So you can start up and set off without waking the neighbours, and slink silently and serenely through cities and towns.
Don’t worry, the Artura still works if you run down the battery, as the petrol engine kicks in. And if you need to top up the battery, you can plug in to an EV charger, or even use the Artura’s engine.
Why have the electric motor though? Well, it enables the McLaren Artura to officially achieve over 60mpg. But this is also a supercar, and that powerful electric motor supplements the mid-mounted, twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6.
The result is a total output of 680PS, plus 720Nm of torque. That means 0-62mph in 3.0 seconds and a top speed of over 200mph.
It’s easy to drive, mind. The eight-speed gearbox is an automatic (albeit with paddle-shift manual override should you wish), there’s all manner of modern safety systems to help keep the power in check, and McLaren’s supercars are famed for their excellent visibility.
The hybrid powertrain isn’t the only smart bit of tech. Inside, you’ll find a 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins stereo, and a 8-inch high-resolution infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay® and Android AutoTM compatibility. A reversing camera and front nose-lift system are also present and correct, and even the Pirelli tyres are trick, with a patented noise-cancelling construction so it’s a quieter supercar when you’re cruising.
There’s Formula 1-inspired tech as well, in the shape of the light but super-strong carbon fibre chassis, and the powerful carbon-ceramic brakes.
And then we get to the design of the McLaren Artura. This is every inch a modern-day supercar: clean, crisp and pure. Wait until you see those signature McLaren dihedral doors flip up too!
