Coniston Valley
Coniston Valley is a hiking paradise with Crag Head, and its spectacular view of the Langdales, to the back of the house and the craggy outcrops of Furness Fells crowning Coniston Water to the front. From the garden, step straight into Grizedale’s Forest’s wildlife-rich carpet of conifers.
Coniston Water
Coniston’s glacial ribbon lake was awarded Bathing Water Status this year. Dive in for exhilarating wild swims or cruise its clear waters by paddleboard. The house’s private jetty is complete with a hand-made rowing boat, while Coniston Boating Centre offers sailing courses.
Coniston Village
Oars in hand, scull peacefully across the lake to charming Coniston Village, or drive there within minutes. Enjoy cosy hideaways such as the Crown Inn and The Black Bull Inn, a 400 year old coaching stop, where the Coniston Brewing Company make their award-winning Bluebird Bitter.
Epicurean Exploits
This incredible house is also perfectly poised for culinary adventure. Because the Lake District twinkles with no fewer than fifteen Michelin Stars, the most anywhere outside of London–including the three-starred L’Enclume in Cartmel, just forty minutes' drive away.
Ambleside
On the shore of Windermere, thirty minutes from the house, Ambleside’s traditional slate buildings house chic eateries, independent cafes and pubs. While away the hours in the much-loved Drunken Duck, or catch an arthouse film at its independent cinema, Zeffirellis.
Literary Loves
Arthur Ransome’s beloved Swallows and Amazons series was inspired by Consiton, which he even part-wrote in the cottage next door to this Enchanting House. Visit writer and artist John Ruskin’s inspiring home, Brantwood House, or The World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness.
