Nicola C. from Nottingham is this week’s winner of our Cotswolds Weekly Cash Draw. We caught up with Nicola to find out how it feels to win.
How do you feel about winning your cash prize?
I honestly couldn’t believe I’d been lucky enough to win £1,000 and still be in the draw to win the house. The past year has been terrible for me as I’d taken out additional borrowing on my mortgage to improve my home but then Covid hit when I was newly self-employed. The government wouldn’t support me with no income so my son and I could only live on the money for the home improvements until I was able to work again. Fortunately, I had a lodger so I only went through some of the money, it’s not all gone. Winning £1,000 has meant I can put some money back into the pot and hopefully start getting closer to completing my home improvements. Thanks Omaze!
What tempted you to enter the Omaze Million Pound House Draw?
Having seen on TV that people genuinely won houses, I thought I would give it a try. The charities are worthy of the cash and to win the house would be absolutely amazing. Life has been tough for me with some really awful times. To actually own a house without the stress of a mortgage to pay would be a dream come true and some of the houses are so beautiful, like the Cotswolds house.
Had you heard of The Prince’s Trust before you entered?
I have no real connection with The Prince's Trust but I know of the great work the charity does for young people.
What would you do if you won the house?
If I won the Cotswolds house I may move into it, I can’t decide just yet. It depends where my son needs me to be. My son is now 18 in full time education and it’s going to be me supporting him through university as he wants to become a doctor/surgeon in the NHS. It’s always just been me and my son, so I’ve worked hard to give him a home. If I wasn’t able to live in the Cotswolds house I’d look to sell it in order to pay off my current mortgage and buy a home for my son and I closer to where we need to be for his education. Then the rest of the money would be invested in his education so he doesn’t have to get student loans. Plus, hopefully we’d go on a much needed holiday once Covid is a distant memory. I’m keeping my fingers crossed to win the house. I know I would be very emotional.
So, what will you spend your cash prize on?
The money is going back into the bank to try and build up the money again for my home improvements to finally get the house and garden sorted, then I need to save for a kitchen. If Covid19 hadn’t come along I’d be in a much better position right now.
