Who Are Blood Cancer UK?

Let’s not beat around the bush with this one: our charity partners are pretty incredible. And, in fact, they’re a huge part of the reason we do what we do here at Omaze.

We give a lot of thought to the partnerships we forge, as they mean so much to us. Which is why when we get to partner with a charity for a second time, we’re always super excited to see how else our Omaze community can help them change and save lives.

Back in the 2022 Cornwall House Draw, the Omaze partnership raised £1,000,000 for Blood Cancer UK, allowing them to fund boundary breaking research into childhood blood cancers.

Thanks to the work of Blood Cancer UK, along with other organisations, 9 in 10 children now survive their blood cancer. This summer, Omaze is helping them to get to 10/10… and you can too.

Because we’re teaming up once again with Blood Cancer UK for the Yorkshire House Draw.

Blood cancer is a term that's used to describe many different types of cancer that can affect your blood, bone marrow or lymphatic system. It happens when something goes wrong with the development of your blood cells.

Around 40,000 people are diagnosed with blood cancer each year in the UK, and around 250,000 people are currently living with blood cancer. A quarter of people with blood cancer are diagnosed as an emergency admission.

Knowing what to look out for can make all the difference because the earlier blood cancer is detected, the greater the chance of successfully treating it.

Over 60 years, Blood Cancer UK has invested more than £500 million in blood cancer research which has led to a long line of breakthroughs that have improved treatments and saved lives.

Its cutting-edge research into blood cancer’s causes and treatments has influenced clinical practice across the world. Blood Cancer UK’s investment in blood cancer research has provided crucial insights into how cancers develop, as well as informing its tests and treatments. Much of this learning has helped people with other types of cancer and diseases. It’s hard to imagine just how many people’s lives this wonderful charity has touched.

“We’re thrilled to partner again with Omaze for the Omaze Million Pound House Draw, Yorkshire. Our 2022 partnership raised an incredible £1,000,000, which is funding research right now to improve treatments for people with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other types of blood cancer.

Sadly, blood cancer is still the UK’s third biggest cancer killer, and it’s the most common cancer in children. We’re determined to make sure it’s beaten within a generation. The Yorkshire House Draw will raise vital funds to help us get there and will also raise the profile of blood cancer, helping to reduce the harm caused by low awareness.”
